Terraria Mana

Terraria is the hit 2d open world game that was bullied for being a Minecraft copycat despite being almost nothing like Minecraft. The game has a large variety of weapon types like swords, spears, bows, guns, and more. But what I want to talk about is the magic weapons and the Mana system. Mana is a stat in the game that recharges overtime. Whenever a magical weapon is used, it uses Mana. Players start with a numerical of 25 mana and could reach a max of 200 once they fully upgraded.

Magic weapons are one of the most dynamic weapon types in the game because one magical weapon could have completely different mechanics compared to another. It is also the most versatile as due to the nature of mana being rechargeable, it could be worked in conjuncture with other weapons and build types without worrying about ammo. The tradeoff of mana is a lack of spamability as without potions, you need to wait for a recharge to use it again. But you can lessen the effects with potions and regeneration items along with equipable items to lessen the weaknesses. Just like most mechanics in Terraria, Mana has a lot of depth and thought put into it.

I feel that the Mana mechanic specifically is very niche and mostly amazing only within Terraria. But the core aspect of Mana is a rechargeable stat that dictates the use of a weapon and it should be a baseline for many mechanics in many games. In fact, I have seen the core used in several games like stamina bars, RPG magic, etc.
